October blues & tunes

OCTOBER 2026 newsletteR

A couple of progress photos for you! I don’t have any of myself, but I have done something as well- I swear!

Helou beautiful souls. October has been busy, getting my cottage built! It’s so exciting! The frame and roof are up; now just a little bit of flooring, and insulation, and painting, and doors… But next year will be new premises, new energy, new challenges; I cannot wait! Stay tuned. Next year, once the building is up and my coaching sessions are up and running, there will be a slight adjustment to pricing, so make the most of it at the end of the year.

I have been in NZ for 8 years, and I’m 1 year away from citizenship, but every now and then I still feel like I’m living in the Northern hemisphere. So at the moment my body is preparing for winter. Internally, I feel the blues, like sleeping and gathering energy. I regularly get laughed at at home for going to bed between 7 and 9pm. I know I keep telling you lot that being outside in daylight is the best medicine for everything, but this time of year it really is important. You want to prepare yourself for summer; your rhythm of life will be a bit different, and you want your skin ready for hotter months without nasty burns. You want to gently introduce more light, heat, and UV to your life so your body can balance your hormones to help and protect you. In Finland, spring is the time that people get depressed more, and sadly the suicide rate is at its highest as well; it’s like it’s too much of a shock to the system when the darkness ends. Luckily, here in NZ we get a fair amount of light during winter months as well, but it’s still a different season and requires adjustments. Morning light and evening darkness are the main things to help your system.

Spring tuning:

  1. Go out first thing in the morning, at least 5mins

  2. No sunglasses (preferably never, but at least not in the morning)

  3. Sunscreen only in longer exposures to the sun

  4. Keep the eating routine the same, or eat less in warmer months as your body needs less to keep you warm.

  5. Jump in to the lake as often as possible

  6. Fake darkness at night to keep your circadian rhythm strong

Morning light will set your body and hormones for the day; the system knows it’s daytime and starts the engine. Eyes are important messengers for your body; if you cover them from daylight, your system gets confused and creates wrong hormones. This leads to way easier skin burns, tiredness, and cravings for food. Embrace the wrinkles on the corners of your eyes; they make you look more like a cat, so way cooler! If your body is in sync with its surroundings and fueled with good food, you don’t instantly burn in the sun. In fact, your skin knows how to protect itself. Take my word for it: I used to be only white or red, always with a thick layer of sunscreen and sunglasses. With adjustments to my life, I very rarely burn, never use sunglasses, and use sunscreen only if it’s a full day without shade. If my Northern European cave genes, white skin, and blonde hair can adjust, so can yours. The skin is the largest organ in the body and plays a big part in vitamin D production and hormones, and you also want to let it breathe after being stuck in clothes over winter. Food, use common sense, and listen to your body. You don’t want to get into the limbo of dieting to get into summer shape and then dieting again to get rid of the holiday weight. Everything in moderation, folks; occasional beer or ice cream will only be good for the soul, not a matter of stress. Make the most of the beautiful lake we have so close by; water is a calming element, and only being close to it will help to balance your mind. It’s hard to go to bed when there’s light outside, so get good blackout curtains and retire to your bedchambers nice and early to make sure your body knows it’s nighttime. Or if you are like my mom (I’m pretty close to this myself), close your eyes and the darkness and sleep will follow, haha!

That’s all for now; let’s enjoy the incredible sunshine of the weekend. I’m here as always, when you need it. If you are not booked in for the next couple of weeks, be curious and come and say hi to us, trying to get the cottage ready :)

Love

Being in the sun and eating healthy is important, but sometimes one can only achieve 50%. So being in the sun and enjoying beer and crisps in good company is also important!

Just to show you how cool I look in the evenings! So you can still keep buying cool sunglasses; just wear them indoors, not outdoors, haha.
